NOW AVAILABLE: AMAZING SUHR SCOTT HENDERSON!

9 July 2020

New SUHR availability and this time with a very special model, the Signature by Scott Henderson, a true legend of jazz, blues and rock guitar.

Born in 1954, Scott Henderson grew up at a time when blues-rock was at its peak. His formative musical years took place in South Florida where he played in clubs with various bands, playing everything from Led Zeppelin to James Brown. While learning his instrument, Henderson was influenced by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore and his favorite blues guitarist Albert King.

Although Henderson claims to be more of a blues-rock musician, it was the influence of jazz that led him to his signature style!

Scott studied arranging and composition at Florida Atlantic University, then moved to Los Angeles in 1980. He toured and recorded with Chick Corea’s Elektric Band, and had the opportunity to work for four years with one of his favorite musicians, Joe Zawinul of Weather Report, with whom he recorded two albums, “The Immigrants” and “Black Water.” Henderson formed the legendary band Tribal Tech in 1984 with bassist Gary Willis, and recorded ten critically acclaimed albums.

In 1991, Scott was named by Guitar World as the No. 1 jazz guitarist, and in January 1992 he was named No. 1 jazz guitarist in Guitar Player’s annual readers’ poll. His first solo blues album, “Dog Party,” was a return to his musical roots, with which he won Guitar Player Magazine’s 1994 Best Blues Album award.

Scott also released two albums with “Vital Tech Tones,” a trio collaboration with bassist Victor Wooten and former Journey drummer Steve Smith. In 2009 he began touring the world with the HBC Trio, featuring bassist Jeff Berlin and drummer Dennis Chambers. Their first record “HBC” was released in October 2012.

Scott Henderson is on the faculty of the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, where his Open Counseling sessions are among the most popular, plus he has written articles for Guitar Player Magazine and many other guitar publications. The relationship with Suhr has long roots: in fact, John Suhr has been building Classic S guitars for Scott since 1991. When John founded Suhr Guitars 20 years ago, Scott was his first endorser. In this close collaboration, over the years John and Scott have refined Scott’s particular guitar specifications to what they are today, and now Scott Henderson’s Signature guitar is available for all to enjoy. A light instrument with warm, enveloping tones, thanks to its alder body and roasted maple neck…special feature of the Scott Henderson Signature, and a key integral part of Scott’s style, is the modified Fender 6-bolt bridge with an increased range of action that allows the G string to be raised by a major third at no load, and the A string lowered by approximately an octave. In short, a truly versatile guitar, thanks in part to the ML Mike Landau pickups, capable of softer, jazzy sounds, but also piercing and aggressive the moment you push it hard… in this sense Scott is definitely proof that any genre of music can be tackled fearlessly with a Suhr Scott Henderson!
