SUHR HOMBRE

18 March 2020

02 20 1SUHR HOMBRE 01
The new and highly anticipated Hombre tube combo is Suhr’s interpretation of the classic brownface tones that have always inspired John Suhr since his early years as a guitarist. The intention was clear: to create a modern version of these classic designs while preserving the vintage heritage.

First and foremost, the purity of the signal path is part of the beauty of the Hombre. The result is an incredibly dynamic and touch-sensitive performance experience. A simple movement of the volume or tone controls will put an impressive range of sounds at your fingertips.

The clean tones are beautifully classic, wonderful, crystal clear and resonant…but make no mistake, this amp is immediately ready for saturation…it’s a snap to push it into creamy overdrive, immediately evoking the tones of the Texas blues-rock era of the 1970s.

The Dynamic Tube Bias integrated tube tremolo, conveys an unmistakably rich and refined sound that simply has no imitations. The Hombre is driven by a ~20-watt 6V6 tube power amp section, and features a very lightweight chassis equipped with a 12-inch Celestion V-Type driver.

SUHR HOMBRE 03
Pure signal path!
Hombre features two channels, Normal and Bright with simple volume and tone controls. A simple and transparent signal path is something that many guitarists find ideal because of the purity of tone and exceptional dynamic range. The goal of the Hombre is to retain the vintage features while making some design improvements. Meticulous attention was given to the component layout and signal path to reduce background noise. The Hombre also features custom transformers, wound on paper coils and manufactured in the United States.

Dynamic Tube Bias Tremolo
Bias Tremolo circuits are truly unique in that the effect is created by modulating the bias of the power tubes. When the bias of the power tubes is swung, it produces an unmistakably rich and refined sound that can only be achieved with a tube Bias Tremolo. There is also a distinct interaction between tremolo and the dynamics of the musician playing. In fact, the intensity of the tremolo can beinfluenced by the intensity with which the guitar is played. When the amplifier is pushed harder, or the musician plays with stronger dynamics, the tremolo effect is less noticeable, but when the signal decays, the effect then becomes more noticeable. This results in an amazing effect that lives and breathes with the music itself.

Vintage Design
Hombre is a lightweight combo amplifier equipped with a 1 × 12 speaker, and is every guitarist’s ideal companion for live performances and studio sessions. The vintage-designed chassis is made of multilayer pine wood, and features a front panel attached only at the sides to be free to vibrate. After many hours of listening and much testing, a 12-inch Celestion V-Type speaker was chosen as the Hombre’s companion.
